The Challenge
Online gaming is a global multi-billion dollar industry, with an estimated audience of 2.3 billion. High transaction volumes and open networking make gaming a prime target for cybercrime. The rise of mobile gaming and microtransactions further complicates security requirements.
Continuous network traffic monitoring is the only way to maintain the network's integrity and users' trust.
The Stars Group recognized this, so already had monitoring and security tools in place. However, they faced challenges with corrupted data caused by packet drops and errors from switched port analyzer (SPAN) ports. This unreliable data impacted their ability to safeguard the network and plan for future growth.
Additionally, the company needed to securely connect four single-mode optical fiber links to two multi-mode intrusion detection systems (IDS), requiring both media conversion and traffic aggregation.
The client also wanted to deploy monitoring tools for visibility, all without introducing latency or compromising network performance.
Latency is our enemy. Network Critical tools let us protect our network and plan for future growth by giving us accurate data without adding delay into our network.” - Director, Global Network Engineering
