More Than Meets The Eye

SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™ for Mass Monitoring

Here are few expressions of the surprise we experience when expectations based on physical size are exceeded by performance: More than meets the eye, big things come in small packages. The SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™, just released by Network Critical fits both of these expressions.

IoB

Why is this new system so important to the visibility market? One of the top tech trends for 2021 reported in TechRepublic is one that Gartner terms Internet of Behaviors (IoB). This new and growing tech trend will soon touch many of us.

First, let’s look at its predecessor, Internet of Things (IoT). This is where all of your devices are connected to the internet. These devices are being monitored by many companies for marketing, support and other beneficial services. If you search for a new car online, for example, your inbox will suddenly be flooded with special deals on new cars.

Now, take that one step further to Internet of Behavior, IoB. Whether or not you are aware, you are leaving a digital trail wherever you go, whatever you do and how you interact with others. Internet marketers are moving to the next step by creating behavior patterns based on your actions. GPS tracks your movements, phone apps track your preferences, embedded AI programs track and learn your actions. This is what Gartner calls the "digital dust" of peoples' daily lives. It includes facial recognition, location tracking, and big data all merging together. In short, massive amounts of data being analyzed around the clock allowing organizations not only to know what you are doing, but how you behave.

There is an auto insurance company that monitors how fast you drive, how sharp you turn, how many times you had to break hard and how often you change lanes. By analyzing your driving behavior, they adjust your insurance rates. If you are a safe driver, your rates are lower. Health insurance companies, pharmaceutical companies, government agencies, banks and many other organizations are all interested in the behaviors of their constituents and clients.

The Gartner report predicts that by the end of 2025, more than half of the world's population will be subject to at least one IoB program. The foundation of all these programs, of course, is accurate monitoring of massive amounts of data. This is more than “Big Data.” This is “Massive Data.”

SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore for Massive Monitoring

Specialized analysis software, super-fast processing hardware and AI programs make up the computing powerhouse behind IoB. However, for this behavioral analysis ecosystem to work, massive amounts of input data must be captured, copied and sent to the computers at lightning fast speeds. Mobile carriers, global enterprise networks and major marketers are all struggling with how to instantly get this data from network links to their monitoring tools.

Enter Network Critical, a leading global visibility innovator. The company has just recently introduced the SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™. This new addition to its SmartNA TAP and Packet Broker family is the fastest packet broker in the industry offering up to 32 ports of non-blocking 400Gbps throughput. While providing network visibility, data access and optimization for next generation network monitoring infrastructure the SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™ achieves a throughput of up to 25.6Tbps. Advanced packet broker features such as aggregation, filtering, port mapping and session aware load balancing help organizations save CAPEX by allowing reuse of existing monitoring tools and increasing operational efficiency of those tools.

With all this power and speed, you would think this system would require an entire rack to accommodate the base unit, fans, cooling and power. However, the SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™ base unit requires only one Rack Unit (RU) of space for all 32 ports. Additional PortPlus units can be added to increase port count to a total of 256 ports within a 5RU space. Providing maximum flexibility, each port can be set for 1/10/25/40/50/100//200/400Gbps using QSPF-DD interfaces. No other system can offer the throughput, flexibility and scale out growth path in such a small footprint.

Of course, all of the critical management features are included such as support for RADIUS and TACACS+, SNMPv3 and custom P-Tag functionality supporting complex traffic processing workflows. Dual hot swap power supplies and fans provide reliability and resilience.

The SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™ is deployed and managed using the innovative Drag-n-Vu™ Graphical User Interface, a sophisticated computational engine that simplifies processes and assures accuracy of settings. As the name suggests, port maps, filters and other features can be accessed visually and set with the click of a mouse. The hard math is done in the background saving time while also providing warnings for setting errors.

More in Less

The SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore™ does not look like much. Physically, it is about the size of a large pizza box. However, its small and unassuming appearance is misleading. The SmartNA-PortPlus HyperCore is the visibility industry leader and the foundation for one of the top tech trends for 2021, IoB monitoring. Good things do indeed come in small packages.
