    Customer Needs

    • Customer had an immediate need for solution that was not quite available
    • Customer was expanding and needed to add more critical links to his ASE appliance
    • The current ASE appliance he was using would soon run out of capacity
    • The new ASE 401 was not scheduled for release yet

    Solution Components

    • Flexible SmartNA™ System
    • Provide a network access system that would allow the new critical links to be added to his existing analyzer while traffic was still light
    • When the new higher performance analyzer became available the SmartNA™ system is reprogrammed to provide network access to the new ASE 401

    Results

    • Collaboration with Visual Rep brought about a solution to benefit the Client
    • Solved customer's immediate needs
    • Because of the SmartNA™’s flexibility, the product could be reprogrammed to the new network configuration and accommodate the new ASE 401
    • Customer benefits by only having to purchase one solution that could be used for both scenarios

Being aware of the solutions that are available can often help resolve obstacles within sales opportunities that may otherwise result in lost revenues and possible opportunities for the competition.

    Scenario:

A major financial services customer wanted to expand their existing Visual Networks ASE 400 coverage of their network using the new ASE 401 appliance.

    The Problem:

The new Visual Networks ASE 401 had not been released for customer availability

    The Challenge:

Deploy an interim solution to enable the sale of the new Visual Networks ASE 401 when it becomes available and preempt an open opportunity for Visual Networks competition

Solving the access problem of getting all four links aggregated and sent to the Visual Networks ASE encompassed two options:

    ·       Aggregate all (4) 100Mbps links and send to a single monitor port to Visual Networks ASE

    ·       Split the (4) 100Mbps links to eliminate single point of failure

    The Result:

Working with Network Critical, Visual Networks field sales designed a solution that would allow the installation of the ASE 400 into four of the customer sites using the fully configurable Network Critical SmartNA solution.  Leveraging the programmability of the SmartNA solution, these same TAPs would support the different parameters of the Visual Networks ASE 401 when eventually deployed.

In the end, the latter deployment strategy was preferred by the customer.  There were 4 sites to resolve but only one of them required the duplex solution.

    Key Takeaways:

As customers’ network visibility requirements change and grow in complexity, designing the right deployment solution that meets current and future customer demands can aid in maintaining sales revenues and customer satisfaction. In this case study, the Network Critical SmartNA solution leveraged the existing customer network infrastructure and current Visual Networks ASE 400s by providing a flexible yet scalable and cost effective deployment architecture that enabled the sale of Visual Networks ASE 401 and future deployments to come.
